POLICE YOUTH ACADEMY
East Windsor Township Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Members of the Township Council, in conjunction with Chief of Police William W. Spain will be sponsoring a Police Youth Academy for the summer of 2008.
The East Windsor Township Police Youth Academy will be a one week, five day session running from Monday, June 23 through Friday, June 27, 2008, from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. daily.
The Police Youth Academy will be conducted by East Windsor police officers, and the classroom curriculum will include instruction in the Overview of Police Command and Operations Structure, Police Ethics of Conduct, Criminal Law, Criminal Investigation and Evidence Collection, Motor Vehicle Law and Motor Vehicle Stops, Community Policing, Physical Fitness Training, the Court System, Juvenile Law, Conflict Resolution, Crime Prevention, Patrol Practices and the Use of Radar, Use of Police Equipment, Arrest and Search and Seizure Laws, K-9 Demonstrations, and Drug Identification and Prevention. The Academy will include hands on views of the operation of various police department equipment and vehicles. Lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided to the participants.
The Police Youth Academy will be open to East Windsor Township residents who are currently in the 7th or 8th grade. The Academy will be limited to 25 students, and the selection process will be based on the first twenty-five (25) applications properly completed and turned in to the East Windsor Township Police Department.
Applications will be available beginning Tuesday, April 1 2008 at the East Windsor Police Building, the Municipal Clerk’s office at the East Windsor Municipal Building, and the Melvin Kreps School Guidance Department. All applications must be completed and returned to the East Windsor Police Building no later than 4 P.M. on May 21, 2008.
